Welcome to my wedding blog. I figured that blogging is so popular now, I might as well give it a try.
Charles and I went to Hawaii last week to work on our wedding planning. I planned our trip so that we arrived on Saturday, attended a bridal expo on Sunday and then stayed the following week to follow up with vendors and venues. The bridal expo was quite large and full of lots of useful and some less useful information. We had a bag that probably weighed 10 pounds by the time we were done. I took information from everyone. I even took flyers from booths that I wasn't interested in because I felt bad talking to them and then saying "oh no thanks, I don't want your information."
I think about a third of the vendors were photographers, which was actually good because I think the personality of the photographer is more important than any other wedding vendor.
Our three favorite photographers are:
Aaron Bernard
Joseph Esser
Jeannemarie
I also like the work of Marcia Campbell but she was in a traffic accident in December and will not be working again until February, so we were not able to meet her.
And there was one other photographer we liked at the expo, but he talked so much it kind of made us like him less. We liked his work, but it seemed like we stood there for 1/2 an hour just listening, he didn't ask us any questions or pause for us to get a word in. Plus he kept talking about how good his friend the make-artist is, and pointing out which brides this other guy had worked on and how good the "contouring" was. And, (the thing that really annoyed me) I started to look through his example book and he turned it away from me and said "oh, I'm sorry" and flipped back to beginning and started to tell us about every page. Charles said he would have been a top contender if he hadn't talked so much. I didn't mind him talking really, he was nice, but we decided he might be too domineering while we are trying to relax and enjoy our day.
We decided to schedule our engagement pictures with Aaron, so we met him in Haleiwa on the North Shore last Tuesday. Right before our appointment, we ate some garlic shrimp with about 1/3 a cup of garlic on it, so hopefully we weren't too garlic-y. We drove to an out-of-the-way beach he knew of and took pictures until the sun faded.
